Safe Activities to Enjoy Maryland During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Finding Fun Things to Do During a Pandemic Can Be a Challenge
Having outdoor safe fun during a Pandemic here in the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia region can be a challenge. How do you prevent the spread of the coronavirus while enjoying some recreation time with family and friends? One way is to focus on outdoor activities during the pandemic.
Outdoor Activities Can Lift Your Spirits
When you’re outside, fresh air is constantly moving, dispersing the droplets that spread the covid-19 virus. The droplets are released into the air when you are talking, coughing, or sneezing. So if you stay outside when visiting with others, you’re less likely to breathe in enough of the respiratory droplets containing the virus that causes COVID-19 to become infected.
Outdoor activities during the Pandemic also offer an emotional boost. It can help you feel less stressed, angry, tense or depressed.
Always try to maintain a distance from people you don’t live with of six feet. While you are not required to wear a cloth mask when exercising out of doors, it’s a good idea to always have one with you because that way you can easily put it on if you can’t maintain the six feet of distance.
Four Fun Activities
Here are four fun activities that are low-risk for potentially getting the coronavirus:
- Picnics. Pack food from home or pick up takeout from your favorite restaurant or food truck and take it to enjoy at your favorite public park. Our favorites include: Quiet Waters, Kinder Park, Beverly Triton Nature Park, Downs Memorial Park, Patapsco Valley State Park.
- Farmers markets. This is the perfect time of year to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables and more—directly from the farmers. Most markets open early in the morning but use this handy link to find the closest one to you. Wear a face mask to protect others and yourself.
- Gathering with friends.Allow for social distancing between people from different households and skip the hugs and handshakes. Plan activities that don’t require close contact, such as sidewalk chalk for kids and games like Frisbee. And offer hand sanitizer. Remember that just getting together for a chat at a safe distance can offer a valuable opportunity to be with people you care about — and boost your mood at the same time.
- Drive-in movies. The COVID-19 pandemic has launched a drive-in movie theater comeback in the U.S. It’s something many people can enjoy together with plenty of physical distance. Here in Maryland we have Bengies located at 3417 Eastern Blvd. Middle River, MD 21220
